DO YOU KNOW THE IMPORTANCE OF THE CHASSIS NUMBER AND REFERENCE NUMBER?
On my first trip out to buy parts, I handed my parts list to the supplier who looked at me in amazement: He didn’t speak French like me so he couldn’t read it and secondly, there was no #reference on the list. In his eyes, I was like a gaou in Paris.
I thought I was at Camp #Yabassi (a popular place for selling spare parts in Cameroon) where you just have to say for example that I want the #Atego clutch kit and all the Biafrans (Nigerians who are prosperous in the sale of spare parts) will jump on me with very attractive prices. No, the modern automotive world has changed and every spare part has a reference number. Thanks to this reference number, anyone, regardless of country, language or origin, can find the part. The reference number is unique to each part. So I would have simply had to give the reference #A0182509401 for my supplier to know that I want a clutch kit for Mercedes Atego with #automatic gearbox (2 pedals).
When he realized I was completely lost, he asked me if I at least had the chassis number of the truck in question. then I thought to my self “so I have to give him a chassis number or a reference number every time I have to buy an auto part “. As a good Cameroonian, I accepted the defeat and promised myself that I would never find myself in such a situation again.
